Doormouse – 100% Real Wisconsin Cheese

wisc-cheese2

Dan Martin aka Doormouse has been on the forefront of breakcore, techno, gabber, and many other evil sub-genres of dance music for over ten years. Now he’s dropped a crazy mashup-remix-cutup-fuckup mix of 2 Live Crew, Kanye, Royksopp, Trick Daddy, DJ Funk, Timbaland, Akon, Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, and much much more, all backed with the kind of classic ghetto house beats that will keep your cheddar sharp and funky all night long. You can grab the full-length mix here, or surf over to his website to get it in bite-sized individual track format.

Snoop Dogg – Millionaire & Pimp C – Knockin Doorz Down (Hyrule Field)

Two tracks that are impressing the hell out of me right now:

Snoop Dogg – “Millionaire (feat. Tanvi Shah)”

This one proves Snoop still has his ear to the underground, dropping a Crunkstep / Grime track complete with a speaker-crushing bassline that sounds like a bear growling through an epic distortion storm. Props to Snoop for going out a limb to break this sound, as well as including Tanvi Shah’s gorgeous vocals floating across the top.

Pimp C, Li’l Keke, & P.O.P. – “Knockin’ Doorz Down (Hyrule Field)”

This is the stand-out track from Team Teamwork’s much-blogged-about “The Ocarina of Rhyme” mashup. This remix mashes a clanging, marching beat to the uplifting chords of the Hyrule theme, with a classic set of lyrics from the dirty South’s best MC’s to create a triumphant track that transcends both the original and Nintendo novelty for an instant classic.

David Holmes, Greg Wilson, & ColdCut – 3 classic mixes

funkystuff2

Today I’ve got three of the best old school funk soul R&B hiphop disco DJ mixes you’ve ever heard.  I’ve got one recent BBC Essential mix, and one from the vaults, along with a “vintage edition” of the NinjaTune Solid Steel show.

EvLuv X & Headnodic – classic hiphop instrumentals mix

evluv

DJ / producers Headnodic (of the Crown City Rockers / Mighty Underdogs) and EvLuv X have put together an hour-long mix of classic hiphop instrumentals that is the best I’ve heard in a very long time.  Reminiscent of Mark Farina’s early Mushroom Jazz mixes, it’s a head-nodding blend of jazzy old-school beats.  Truly essential – the kind of mix you can put on and let repeat for hours.

Crunkstep & bass – 3 essential mixes

Here’s another side of the ongoing love-affair hiphop is having with electronic dance music.  Instead of electro throwback beats and hipster MC’s, the Paper Route Gangstaz, Rusko, and Squincy Jones have been fusing dirty south crunk with a mixture of bass-heavy dubstep, classic techno anthems, and 8-bit Nintendo samples.  The result is the freshest sound I’ve heard in months.  Check it out (full downloads after the jump):

ATOMLY – live at the Bunker NYE 2009

Atomly, aka Adam Lee, is one of the enduring geniuses of the American electronic music world.  His productions span multiple genres and his DJ sets are works of art.  Recently, he threw down a gorgeous and sublime set of deep, classic house and minimal techno at the 2009 New Year’s Eve party at The Bunker at Williamsburgh.  I danced many of the first hours of the new year at that party but didn’t catch Atomly’s set in person (the festivities lasted almost 24 hours of nonstop music & dancing!)  Thankfully, the set was recorded and is currently the best of its kind that I’ve heard in a long time.  Check out his website for more.
