Here’s another side of the ongoing love-affair hiphop is having with electronic dance music.  Instead of electro throwback beats and hipster MC’s, the Paper Route Gangstaz, Rusko, and Squincy Jones have been fusing dirty south crunk with a mixture of bass-heavy dubstep, classic techno anthems, and 8-bit Nintendo samples.  The result is the freshest sound I’ve heard in months.  Check it out (full downloads after the jump):

Fear & Loathing in HuntsVegas CHOPPED & SCREWED

This mix of PRG’z best tracks and remixes is better than the originals thanks to the screwed style that slows them down into a drugged-out haze that matches the extacy & sex-soaked lyrics, backed with beats lifted from Underworld and Orbital.

Nintendub

Houston, Texas-based DJ Squincy Jones’s  “Nintendub” mix blends crunchy vintage bleeps with wall-shaking bass growls, with classic dirty south lyrics cascading effortlessly through the storm. The opening track is my favorite, a remix of Bun-B’s “Draped Up” over a crushing bassline from Babylon System.

Rusko’s December, 2008 Essential Mix for the BBC showcases his brand of dubstep, opening up with his killer track, “Cockney Thug.” Fresh with some impressive and left-field remixes, this is one of those rare dubstep mixes that’s a prime-time party rocker.
