Shapeshifter – Shift Hop (glitch-hop mix)

shifthop_cover

Here’s a fantastic new mix from Shapeshifter, a talented DJ and producer whose mixes I have featured in the past.  I’ve been rocking it daily since he released it last week and it’s time to add it to the collection.  In his words:

Here’s a mix that’s been well over a year in the making. I’ve been collecting my favorite glitchy/whompy hip-hop-esque tunes and working them together into a mix. It’s finally finished, and bangs hard.

I honestly love all 21 of these tunes to death, and am thrilled I finally figured a way to mix them all together. I hope you enjoy them as well.

Things start off with some banging glitch-hop, then venture into crazy glitched out & wobbly dancehall/reggae vibes, back into some mindfuck bass heavy killers, and then finally ending with a little moodier funky selections.

Megasoid Remix Runners & Tank Thong mixtapes

megasoidheader

I just got hip to Megasoid today via these two fantastic mixtapes. Their bio provides a good intro: “Comprised of Robert ‘Speakerbruiser Rob’ Squire and Hadji Bakara, this Montreal based duo has been smashing the local population with their brand of rap-influenced big-synth remix music.”  Megasoid warps hiphop in a similar vein as their fellow Montreallers the South Rakkas Crew’s “electro dancehall.”

In the blog world of endless remixes of the same tracks, Megasoid injects fresh flavor, buzzing basslines, and a great sense of melody often missing from this style.  An absolutely essential addition to the canon of this rapidly evolving and exciting side of electronic music and hiphop.  Get up on it – your bassbins and your booty will thank you.

Hawstyle – Dubrinse massive dubstep mix

hawstyle

DJ Hawstyle (Chris Haws) is one of those “best kept secrets” in the Midwestern drum n’ bass and dubstep scene.  His sets were always some of my favorites at raves back in the day (he’s been spinning since 1997!), and he is still killin’ it on the turntables.  Recently he posted this new dubstep mix to my other website, Ravetrash, and I had to get it up on the blog.  There aren’t many dubstep mixes that get lots of replays from me, but this is one of them.  A perfect blend of dub styles, hiphop / crunkstep, and surgically-precise mixing.  Grab it now and enjoy!  If you’re a drum n’ bass fan, I also recommend you check out his other mixes at Nofucks.com.

Doormouse – 100% Real Wisconsin Cheese

wisc-cheese2

Dan Martin aka Doormouse has been on the forefront of breakcore, techno, gabber, and many other evil sub-genres of dance music for over ten years. Now he’s dropped a crazy mashup-remix-cutup-fuckup mix of 2 Live Crew, Kanye, Royksopp, Trick Daddy, DJ Funk, Timbaland, Akon, Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, and much much more, all backed with the kind of classic ghetto house beats that will keep your cheddar sharp and funky all night long. You can grab the full-length mix here, or surf over to his website to get it in bite-sized individual track format.

Snoop Dogg – Millionaire & Pimp C – Knockin Doorz Down (Hyrule Field)

Two tracks that are impressing the hell out of me right now:

Snoop Dogg – “Millionaire (feat. Tanvi Shah)”

This one proves Snoop still has his ear to the underground, dropping a Crunkstep / Grime track complete with a speaker-crushing bassline that sounds like a bear growling through an epic distortion storm. Props to Snoop for going out a limb to break this sound, as well as including Tanvi Shah’s gorgeous vocals floating across the top.

Pimp C, Li’l Keke, & P.O.P. – “Knockin’ Doorz Down (Hyrule Field)”

This is the stand-out track from Team Teamwork’s much-blogged-about “The Ocarina of Rhyme” mashup. This remix mashes a clanging, marching beat to the uplifting chords of the Hyrule theme, with a classic set of lyrics from the dirty South’s best MC’s to create a triumphant track that transcends both the original and Nintendo novelty for an instant classic.
