Vintage Colnago Super Pista

Scoooooooooooooore!  Scooped this beautiful Colnago Super Pista from a gentleman up in Harlem yesterday.  I’m still unsure of the exact year and model, but I believe it to be a late 70’s – early 80’s Super Pista, probably one of the Colnago Mexico series.  It has a Campagnolo C-Record gruppo; 165mm Pista crankset, hubs, headset, seatpost, and bars.   Rims are Mavic sew-ups with Wolber tubular tires.

Overall the bike is very clean considering its age and the fact that the previous owner rode it often.  My only complaint is that some dummy drilled the fork for a brake (arrgh!).   I am planning on giving it a complete disassembly, cleaning, polishing, and lubing.   And some fresh bar tape, of course.   The stem is a Nitto Jaguar that I will probably replace with a period-correct 3TTT Colnago pantographed stem, and I plan swapping the saddle for an official vintage Colnago one, and maybe even splurging on some vintage C-Record track pedals.  This is a truly rare bike and I’m kind of in awe of it.   It will likely take me a few weeks (maybe months) before I accumulate all the correct parts, but I can’t wait to post the “after” pics when I’m done.

New Fuji Track Pro pictures

Last Sunday we had some warm weather and I rode with a couple buddies from the NYC Fixed.gr forum out to Floyd Bennett field and Jacob Riis beach.  There was a spectacular sunset at the beach and I asked CyclingWMD to take some “bike porn” pictures of my Fuji Track Pro.  It’s evolved a bit since I last posted about it: I’ve switched to Syntace bullhorn bars, clipless Shimano pedals, and a black Dura-Ace 47T chainring.  And I added a carbon HED3 Tri-spoke front wheel.  This bike is so fast and comfortable now, having evolved into exactly the right fit for me and a joy to ride.

1985 Cinelli Supercorsa

This is a 1985 Cinelli Supercorsa 58cm bicycle I restored and sold.  I bought it from the original owner who had it in dry storage for many years.  Columbus SP or SL tubing, Campagnolo Chorus group.  I replaced the headset and seatpost with fresh-out-of-the-box NOS parts, since the original owner had non-Campy parts on it.

Serial number indicates it was the 61st frame of its type built in 1985. Vintage yellow Selle Italia Flite saddle. Rims are Campy Omega Strada XL hardox clinchers with Continental Duraskin tires. Stem and bars are Cinelli, and the bars are Giro D’Italia model. Original brake hoods too!

The bike does have some scratches in the paint and a small dent in the top tube, but is in great mechanical condition with no rust. Check out the pictures in the gallery below. I sold it to a guy down in New Orleans, Louisiana, so hopefully he’s enjoying it.

Eddie Merckx 7-11 Corsa – New Photos!

I originally featured this bike back in January when I first acquired it, but since then I have done a number of upgrades to improve the fit and handling.  I switched the Selle Italia Flite saddle for an upgraded Gel Flow version with titanium rails, swapped the bar/stem combo for an original Eddie Merckx pantographed Cinelli stem and a set of Ritchie Pro Biomax bars wrapped in Cinelli cork tape, added a set of Origin-8 white pedals with white Soma Oppy-X four-gate toe clips and a set of red nylon double straps from King Kog.  Finally, a pair of new red water bottles to keep me hydrated on long rides.

This morning, after being first rained on, then snowed on during my commute into work, the sun broke through the clouds and I took these fantastic pics of the bike.  Enjoy!

Fuji Track Pro – major upgrades!

I originally built this custom Fuji Track Pro frame up with cheap Bontrager parts from a Trek Soho S, but over the last few months I have been upgrading it to a serious beast.  The crankset is a Dura Ace 7710 “hollow tech” crankset & matching octalink bottom bracket, which feature hollow-forged duraluminum arms for the stiffest and lightest non-carbon cranks available.  It’s matched to Dura Ace 7600 high-flange track hubs laced to a Velocity deep-v wheelset on Continental Gatorskin tires.  The front chainring is a Sugino 75 46T while the cog is a 16T Dura Ace.  I also added a Dura Ace AX seatpost and a rare gray-colored Brooks B17 Pro saddle.  The pedals are MKS Custom Nuevo with MKS Alpha leather double-straps & Christophe clips.  Finally, I swapped the 130mm Cinelli Groove stem for a 120mm, and I might drop it down to 100mm soon.

I’ve been riding this bike as a fixed-gear since December, although I have retained the front and rear brakes for safety, and also so I can switch back to freewheel easily if I wanted.  However, it is a joy to ride fixed and I’m loving every minute on this bike.  Total value is around $1800, so it’s not your average coffee-getter, but I do ride it daily in NYC despite the grit and grime (which you can see in the pics after the jump.)

Bianchi Volpe touring bike

Another day, another bike post!  This is my geared touring bike that I built up from a 1998 Bianchi Volpe frame. I wanted to build a geared bike for century rides and other rides where a single-speed wouldn’t be the best choice.  I also wanted to try out a bullhorn handlebar setup, which I enjoy.  It’s very stable and perfect for when you really want to go fast.  This bike is still sort of a work in progress; it’s comfortable and fit to me but I’d like to replace the stem to match the rest of the white & blue theme.

Trek Soho S – tarckstar style

This is my current city bike, a customized Trek Soho S single speed.  It’s a 2008 model I bought last spring at Bike Habitat.  Since then, I’ve done a lot of upgrading and adjusting to the bike to make it faster and more comfortable.  Not that the Soho S needs it; out of the box it’s a great all-purpose commuter.  It’s lightweight, super stable, and has almost no toe overlap.
