IN4MATION CASIO DATABANK

Wow! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but it’s also been a while since I’ve seen a pair of shoes or a watch that made me want to blog… so heren it is, my slump buster: In4mation’s custom Casio Databank. It’s not out for sale right now, but when it drops, if it’s under $300 then I will be rocking it!

PUMA Yutori Kimono

yutori

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve updated this blog, but this pair of shoes is the first I’ve seen since the Michael Lau Woodgrain dunks that truly impress me from an art and design perspective. Similar to the Puma Satori shoes, which were modelled after Samurai armor, these are woven from genuine Kimono fabric. A truly exsquisite shoe for the ladies.

The folks at Freshness Mag say:

They are inspired by the traditional style of the Japanese Geisha and are made from real kimono dress fabric found in vintage shops throughout Japan. The bright, elegant, one-of-a-kind fabrics create distinctive folds on the shoes reminiscent of folds in a kimono. The back is collapsible allowing the style to be worn as a slip-on shoe or a slide.

My only criticism / question is why Puma didn’t opt to for the two-toe “Tabi” look… I think it would have made these shoes even more distinctive. Anyway, more images after the jump. (Thanks again to Freshness for the pics.) Continue reading

Walnut Wood Nike Dunk

gardener nikeThis super uberduper exclusive Nike Dunk was created by Michael Lau for the opening of Honk Kong’s flagship Nike store.

Retailing for around a cool two G’s, this Dunk is firmly in the “look but don’t touch” category. Out of all the new Dunks to come out in 2006, this is definately one of the most original and handsomely-realized designs that I have seen. Check out the exclusive website for this release – and make sure to click on the “english” tab unless you’re fluent in Hongkonginese.
The shoe box is made of the finest walnut, and comes with a 6” Walnut wood color NY FAT figure and a mini skateboard wood tag. The “Skate:Shoe:Board” features 4 drill hole graphics laser crafted into the heel representing the drill holes on a skateboard. The inscription “gardener meets nike at hong kong flagship 29.09.2006’ is also laser engraved on to the heel. An image of the original NY FAT figure is also printed on the insole. Thanks to Freshness Mag and Kix-Files.com for the info.

The Fridge from France

The LIP “Fridge” is a new design from a French watchmaker whose roots go back to the turn of the century. However, as usual I’m less interested in the distant past as I am the funky designs of the 1970’s. LIP’s new revival seventies series has several interesting designs, but none as eye-catching as the Fridge. It’s available as pictured, with a brown strap and brass case, and also in black with a black strap and face.

There’s something totally cool and funky about its 1950’s refrigerator look. I love how thick and chunky the watch is, especially how the underside of the case is rounded to comfortably fit your wrist. That’s the sort of sculptural detail that really wins me over. The band is simple and understated as well, balancing the design without being to large. Definately a fresh new design that’s a whimsical departure from the usual “minimalist”look.

Although I can’t seem to find a stateside, or even UK, distributor that sells this watch, I’m going to have to admire it from afar for now. However, its retail is around 170 euros, making it affordable if I could indeed track one down. Seems like they have them at an online store based in Paris called Chez Maman but I don’t know if they ship overseas… thanks to my upcoming bonus check at work, I’ll be investigating, though! After successfully ordering two watches direct from Tokyo, I’ve become a bit more optimistic about buying online from overseas vendors.
