Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles – Enter the Magical Mystery Chambers!

Best hiphop mash-up I’ve heard since Mos Dub.  Period.  I’m gonna let the Tom Caruana, creator of this mash-up, speak on it:

This project came about unintentionally, really. I’d done a Large Professor remix album and an MF Doom one, and then I was starting on a Wu-Tang one. One of the tracks that’s on there, “R.E.C. Room,” I made a couple of years ago. I had this easy-listening record of this orchestra playing cover versions of lots of different ’60s stuff. It had this instrumental version of “Girl,” and the whole thing was just stunning. But I didn’t want to just take a little bit of it. I took the whole song, and sped it up to the right tempo, so it has the complete arrangement and feel of the original Beatles song. Then I made the “C.R.E.A.M.” remix. And then I was like, O.K., I’ve got two tracks now that have Beatles samples with Wu-Tang a cappellas. A few days later I found Ol’ Dirty Bastard talking on YouTube about how he was influenced by the Beatles. And I just thought: This is it.  Being a lifelong record collector of things to sample, I’ve got loads of orchestra records that have got covers of Beatles songs. Once I thought, “O.K., I’m going to do this,” I started going through all my records again. It just then seemed to click.

DJ Spinna – Best of Sade

This one is a must-listen for lovers of… well, love!  Sade needs no introduction, and neither does DJ Spinna, although it’s a crime that I haven’t added one of his mixes to my blog until now.  This mix, put together by Spinna a few months ago to celebrate Sade’s long awaited return with her new album “Soldier of Love,” collects all of Sade’s greatest hits and blends them into a sublime stew of sultry vocals and sexy beats.  Some excellent remixes in here as well, from dub-master Mad Professor, Nellee Hooper of Soul II Soul, Pal Joey, and Spinna himself.

1983 Colnago Super Pista

It took about five months to complete, but I have finally finished restoring this gorgeous vintage Colnago Super Pista.  It’s a 57cm in original paint. My research points to it being a 1983 model – this guess is based off of looking at all the Colnago Pistas I could find online, and the one that had the exact matching decal set and paintjob was a 1983.  It has Columbus tubing and the fork is the flat crown model, chromed, with engraved Colnago “C” and clover.

The original story on how I got it is here, but since then I spent a lot of time collecting up the right parts and slowly cleaning and polishing it up.  While fixing up the Campy lockring with my Dremel tool, I got some steel in my eye that required three separate procedures to completely remove.  So there was definitely sweat and tears invested in this project!

Alan Tansey was kind enough to volunteer his awesome photo skills to take a great set of pictures of this beast.  Check out the full photo gallery and specs after the jump…
