Catnap – Acid Techno Classics

I’m back with a new DJ mix, and this time it’s a selection of techno from the late 1980’s and early 90’s.  The first wave of acid house had passed and the tempos had increased, the sonic landscape widening as the genre began to mature.  The roots of the Trance genre are here, alongside harder-edged sounds from Germany and New York, mingling with the Afro-futurism of Detroit.  This is when EDM “grew up” and went from a popular dance craze to the exploration of whole new worlds and visions.

Mix download and tracklist after the jump… I’ve picked tracks from both sides of the Atlantic, putting together an all-star lineup that includes Slam, Underworld, Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram, Juan Atkins, Photek, and more.  I also layered in some newer minimal and glitch techno to fill out the bottom end of the beats and bridge some of the bigger storming tracks.  I hope you enjoy it, I’m already working on more volumes.

  1. Everyone can do an interview and sound cool and inierresttng. But when i hear this skrillexcrap on the radio again, i remember why i hate it, and no, it’s not because it’s dubstep (it’s not even dubstep *facepalm*) it’s noise created for money. It’s as empty as my wallet after a festival. I tried to compare it once with richie’s concept96. After a minute i realized there was nothing to compare on any level. All those skillexes and other moneytakers can kiss my ***. They think they know music, but they don’t or like the money more.
