Luvstep: A mix by Dirty South Joe & Flufftronix

luvstep

I grabbed this mix from Diplo’s Mad Decent blog yesterday and am really feeling it.  Here’s their description:

We live in a cynical world, and we work in a business of tough competitors, so what’s in a wobble? You don’t have to be a smart man to know what love is. <3STEP completes you and is programmed for pleasure. It’s music for starry nights and candle light…slow wine and grind time. Dirty South Joe and Flufftronix are your captains for this maiden voyage into the heart of the boom’s cosmic bosom. It’s amazing, the love inside. You take it with you.

Dubstep producer and DJ Starkey provides a short spoken forward explaining the roots of this sound and how “luvstep” takes it in a new direction.  Check out their website for the full tracklist, bookings, artwork, etc or just listen & download it now:

Shapeshifter – Shift Hop (glitch-hop mix)

shifthop_cover

Here’s a fantastic new mix from Shapeshifter, a talented DJ and producer whose mixes I have featured in the past.  I’ve been rocking it daily since he released it last week and it’s time to add it to the collection.  In his words:

Here’s a mix that’s been well over a year in the making. I’ve been collecting my favorite glitchy/whompy hip-hop-esque tunes and working them together into a mix. It’s finally finished, and bangs hard.

I honestly love all 21 of these tunes to death, and am thrilled I finally figured a way to mix them all together. I hope you enjoy them as well.

Things start off with some banging glitch-hop, then venture into crazy glitched out & wobbly dancehall/reggae vibes, back into some mindfuck bass heavy killers, and then finally ending with a little moodier funky selections.

Catnap – In the Valley of the Shadow of Dub

catnap_valleyofdubs

I mixed up some vocal dubstep and new school dub to create this mix.  A lot of dubstep bores me, but I’ve heard some amazing mixes from DJ Zhao, Squincy Jones, and Shiva that have shown me that it leaves a lot of room for creativity.  So I tried to bring mine, with tracks from Caspa, L-Wiz, Dr. Israel, Leftfield, Kode 9, Dubblestandart, Modselektor and more… like Lil’ Wayne and Peter Tosh.

I’ve been working on this one for a while, going through hundreds of dubstep tracks to find the few I really liked and that work well together.  It came together this weekend, reflecting  how I’ve been feeling… in the Valley of the Shadow of Dub.

Megasoid Remix Runners & Tank Thong mixtapes

megasoidheader

I just got hip to Megasoid today via these two fantastic mixtapes. Their bio provides a good intro: “Comprised of Robert ‘Speakerbruiser Rob’ Squire and Hadji Bakara, this Montreal based duo has been smashing the local population with their brand of rap-influenced big-synth remix music.”  Megasoid warps hiphop in a similar vein as their fellow Montreallers the South Rakkas Crew’s “electro dancehall.”

In the blog world of endless remixes of the same tracks, Megasoid injects fresh flavor, buzzing basslines, and a great sense of melody often missing from this style.  An absolutely essential addition to the canon of this rapidly evolving and exciting side of electronic music and hiphop.  Get up on it – your bassbins and your booty will thank you.

Hawstyle – Dubrinse massive dubstep mix

hawstyle

DJ Hawstyle (Chris Haws) is one of those “best kept secrets” in the Midwestern drum n’ bass and dubstep scene.  His sets were always some of my favorites at raves back in the day (he’s been spinning since 1997!), and he is still killin’ it on the turntables.  Recently he posted this new dubstep mix to my other website, Ravetrash, and I had to get it up on the blog.  There aren’t many dubstep mixes that get lots of replays from me, but this is one of them.  A perfect blend of dub styles, hiphop / crunkstep, and surgically-precise mixing.  Grab it now and enjoy!  If you’re a drum n’ bass fan, I also recommend you check out his other mixes at Nofucks.com.

Crunkstep & bass – 3 essential mixes

Here’s another side of the ongoing love-affair hiphop is having with electronic dance music.  Instead of electro throwback beats and hipster MC’s, the Paper Route Gangstaz, Rusko, and Squincy Jones have been fusing dirty south crunk with a mixture of bass-heavy dubstep, classic techno anthems, and 8-bit Nintendo samples.  The result is the freshest sound I’ve heard in months.  Check it out (full downloads after the jump):
