David Hollands – Pool Party

Wowwww… I just found this mix via David Hollands’ site and am nearly paralyzed with nostalgia.  This is the very first dj mixtape I ever heard, which I bought at the first rave I ever went to.  David Hollands is a world-traveled and renowned DJ, and is currently the host of the Fuerza Bruta “DJ Connection” events, the successor to the famous De La Guarda shows.  Pool Party is one of his earlier mixes, a blend of deep house and techno that blew my mind 13 years ago, and forever shaped my tastes in both electronic music and DJ mixes.

More info and download after the jump…

page2_blog_entry0-fuerzabruta-011-1_600At the time, I’d been listening to stuff like Moby, The Prodigy, and KMFDM, and here comes this underground tape that is two continuous mixes of songs I’d never heard in my life, mixed in a way where I couldn’t tell when one started and another ended.  I’d never heard anything like it before, and it contradicted everything that I had assumed about how music could be structured.

Did I mention it’s also fun to dance to and completely addictive?  Anyway, I am really glad to have this and the Andy C mix archived on this site now, as they represent two of the very first dj mixes I ever heard.   And still one of the best!

A note on the download: It’s split into two parts, but they are independent mixes.  Enjoy them separately or back-to-back.  No tracklist available, although I know there was one on the original mixtape art, so if I find it I will post it.

  4. Thank you sooooo much for posting this!!!!!!! I had this tape back in the day and it was one of my favorite mixes! Unfortunately one sunny day the tape melted in the back seat of my car and I’ve been looking for a copy ever since. The first track on “The Shallow End” is so amazing!
